Anybody have a clue what causes Retrospect 7.6(pc) or 6.1230 (Mac)
using 6.2234 clients to lose track of its ip address for a particular
client?
What seems to be happening in one case is when the IP number of a
computer gets changed by a DHCP server Retrospect doesn't seem to
coordinate that change with the remote. You end up getting one of the
following errors which show up on a weekly basis at various clients of
mine...
(I have replace the real users name with xxxxx)
Can't access volume admin on xxxxx computer, error -1028 (client is
not visible on network). (Message running Retrospect on a Tiger system)
Can't access volume fido onxxxxxx, error -525 (wrong client found at
that address (Message running on Retrospect on a PC system)
Can't access volume xxxxxx on xxxxx, error 541 (client not installed
or not running). (Message running Retrospect on a Tiger system)
In all cases the remote is running. This can be verified by inputting
the ip number of the computer in the testing area of configure/clients/
network.
So, you either have to reinstall the client or if on a PC, you can
change the access method from Multicast to direct, input the correct
ip number, update the remote, wait 30 seconds or so and change back to
Multicast.
This problem happens regardless of DHCP, just not as often. Meaning,
some manually configured Mac computers sometimes can't be found by
Retrospect even though the remote is definitely running..which can be
confirmed again by "testing". If you then delete the client and add
it back it will say something like in use by someone else. You have to
run the client installer to resolve.
I can't find any pattern which triggers these problems. I have
searched the internet and found other users having similar issues
without any permanent resolution.
These problems Never happened in the old days.... pre version 6.130 or
earlier. I've tried going back to older clients but had mixed results.
Any thoughts from the community?
Thanks in advance.
Todd
