That's an old BUG that I submitted a long time ago, and that never was addressed.
This is particularly relevant, since if you have EXCLUSIONS they are never used when it comes to scanning, only when it comes to actually backing up.
So say you exclude /Applications paths that start with /App* then /Applications is still scanned, but not backed up. IMO, the moment /App* is hit, ALL scanning should cease, and Retro should look at the next candidate.
It's almost like Retrospect first makes a full list of all fully qualified and resolved files, and then throws out what doesn't match the criteria, rather than treating the whole stuff like a tree and pruning entire branches the moment an exclusion is met.
